Murcia gets new private equity firm
The Spanish Ministry for Economy, Industry and the Treasury has announced the creation of a new private equity firm in the province of Murcia. Murcia Emprende will finance high-tech businesses based in the region, supporting companies specialising in advanced technologies. The firm will have an initial capital of €6m, which will be provided by Info (10%), Cajamurcia (32.5%), CAM (32.5%) and Cajamar (25%), who will manage Murcia Emprende. It will make investments averaging between €150,000-€600,000, although it will never invest over €1m. The company will realise seed, start-up, early-stage, expansion or replacement capital investments, but will only take minority stakes. Several local firms are already thought to be interested in receiving funding from Murcia Emprende, including a bicycle helmet manufacturer, a packaging recycler and a multimedia content provider. Interested parties can obtain further information from any of the shareholder firms, or from the Club de Inversores, Undemur, the Centro Empresarial Europeo de Innovación de Cartagena.
