Navacchio Technology Centre
Two public bodies, the Municipality of Cascina, which holds a 60% stake in the centre, and the Province of Pisa, which holds 40%, have recently instigated an increase in capital for the Navacchio incubator. The first phase of the project was carried out in 1999, when an initial investment was made.
The Navacchio Centre’s business model consists of obtaining revenues from renting venues and selling consultancy services to businesses. The consultancy services range from technical and management assistance to compiling business plans. The businesses that are included in the centre must pay a sum equal to 50% of their costs and around 10% of their revenues in the first two years.
The centre expects to reach breakeven in 2002 and to make its first profits in 2003. Navacchio Valley is made up of businesses operating in the biomedical, microelectronics, IT, telematics, energy and environment sectors, as well as high-technology furnishings.
