
I+D Unifondo
The university fund I+D Unifondo, which is sponsored by the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela and managed by Uninvest, will be officially set up in April. The fund involves 16 Spanish universities, and will be set up with an initial capital of around e12.5m, which will be supplemented by a further amount of between e6m-8m over the next nine months. Financial investors in the fund include Santander Central Hispano, which has contributed around e5m, and Axis - part of the Instituto de Crédito Oficial - which provided e2.5m. Other investors include savings banks, regional development agencies and local businesses, which will commit around e300,000 over the next five years. The European Investment Fund and the Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial (CDTI) feature amongst the institutional investors in the fund. I+D Unifondo will invest in technological spinouts from universities' research and development centres.
