Portugal’s largest law firm opens Angola office
The largest law firm in Portugal, PLMJ (A.M. Pereira, Sáragga Leal, Oliveira Martins, Júdice & Associados), opened its first overseas branch in Angola on February 2004. The office will advise the increasing number of Portuguese companies with interests in Angola. The Angolan branch will be located in Luanda and will be headed by local lawyer Raul Arango, in order to comply with Angolan bar association rules. Three partners from PLMJ will spend a week per month in Luanda, with one lawyer to be seconded to the city later in the year. PLMJ is based in Lisbon, and also has offices in Oporto and Faro. The foundation of PLMJ was laid down in the late sixties with the partnership between António Maria Pereira and LuÃs Sáragga Leal, who subsequently admitted Francisco de Oliveira Martins and José Miguel Júdice as partners. One other Portuguese law firm, Mirando Correia Amendoeira & Associados, also has an office in Angola.
