Permira

Permira is to set up a Spanish office in Madrid next year. The new office will be headed up by Carlos Malló, a former director of 3i’s Barcelona office, where he is likely to be joined by four further staff. The Spanish presence will extend Permira’s full-service coverage to the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Sweden and Spain, and will therefore increase its ability to generate deals. Carlos Malló led last year’s €230m buyout of the ceramic glazes company Esmalglass. Permira and Apax recently made a recommended cash offer of $1.538bn for the UK satellite communications operator Inmarsat (Unquote 260, page 22).
