Mercapital agrees to buy Saprogal
The Carlyle Group has agreed to sell Saprogal, a producer of animal feed, to the Spanish private equity group Mercapital. Due diligence is still being carried out and therefore full details of the transaction have not yet been disclosed. The current management team, led by José Rocha Martins, will continue to run the company. Saprogal is the largest animal nutrition group in the Iberian Peninsula, specialising in livestock feed and pet food. With over 500 employees, the firm is headquartered in La Coruña, and has 11 production plants, of which nine are in Spain and two in Portugal. The company has the largest distribution network in its sector, formed by more than 1,000 exclusive distributors, and reports a turnover of around E240m.
