
PayShop
PayShop, a portfolio company of PME Capital, is expecting to register positive EBITDA at the end of 2003, second year of activity. LuÃs Janeiro, managing director, of the firm, which provides payment services for domestic accounts, confirmed at a recent press conference that PayShop now has one thousand agents and has carried out 4m charges totalling €65m. According to Janeiro, the firm supports retailers by creating client loyalty and adding value to their services. PayShop, which already had 800 users, is currently planning to expand its network. The company is aiming to set up partnerships with other firms to facilitate payments via credit and debit cards and payment of fines. Clients will be able to present their bill at any PayShop point-of-sale, where payment can be effected and they will be given in return for a receipt. They will also be able to top up their mobile phones at the outlets. The company’s clients include EDP-Electricidade de Portugal, Vodafone, Optimus and Lisboagás. PME Capital and Banco Efisa took a 40% stake in the company in April 2002. PME Capital’s portfolio includes investments in Altitude SGPS SA, Efacec-Sistemas de Eletrónica SA, Sociedade Agro Industrial de Silvares Lda and Hospor-Hospitais Portugueses SA.
