Caixa d’Estalvis de Catalunya
Caixa d’Estalvis de Catalunya has taken a 45% stake in the private equity asset manager Baring Private Equity Partners España (BPEP España), which is part of Dutch financial group ING. Following this deal, Caixa Catalunya will become an active investor in the funds that BPEP España manages in Spain, particularly in the Baring Iberia II Fund, which is currently being raised and is set to reach its target of Euro100m. At present, BPEP España manages Spanish funds worth more than Euro80m. Among these is the Euro60m Baring Iberia I Fund, which was launched three years ago and is almost fully invested. In addition to Caixa Catalunya, the fund’s investors also include three Spanish savings banks Caja Duero, Caja Asturias, Caixa d’Estalvis de Terassa, a Portuguese savings bank (MontepÃo Geral) and the European Investment Bank. BPEP España also manages regional funds in Valencia, Murcia and Asturias. In the past, Caixa Catalunya has invested more than Pta 4,500m in private equity, principally in start-ups and expansion deals.
