
Marco Polo to sell portfolio
Marco Polo, which specialises in TMT, is reported to have called a shareholder meeting on 19 July to request that further investment activity be stopped. According to reports in the Spanish press, Marco Polo will also ask permission to begin selling its current assets and returning investments to shareholders. Reasons for the possible dissolution of the group have not been revealed, although sources close to the company have said that it is not going into liquidation. Marco Polo was set up in 2000 and was backed by a range of companies and investors including Fincorp, GBS Finanzas, El Corte Inglés, Indra and Once; raising funds of E96.9m. Marco Polo has around seven companies remaining in its portfolio including the media companies Accesogroup and Arenas, the IT company Infinity, and the biotech firms EMBL, Intersuero and Febit.
