Cross-border tech innovation forum
The economic services unit of the French Embassy has joined forces with a number of other bodies to create a Franco-Spanish forum for technological innovation, the Foro de Innovación Tecnológica Hispano-Francés. The Embassy will be joined in the new initiative by the French engineering colleges Supelec and Arts et Métiers, the Instituto Madrileño de Desarrollo (IMADE), Sociedad de Industrialización y Desarrollo Económico (SIDE) and Michelin. The objective of the forum is to optimise the skills of professionals and entrepreneurs in France and Spain, targeting small- and medium-sized enterprises in Spain and France, with attractive business projects. The forum will help SMEs educating them on all aspects of taking their companies forward, and aims to encourage cross-border co-operation between the two countries. At its first meeting on 5 February, the forum discussed issues including private equity, business incubators, tech parks, EU grants and other methods of support, such as ENISA, IMADE and CDTI. The forum does not actually provide financing itself, but can provide information to SMEs on how to apply for grants to back their businesses. The next meeting will take place in March.
