Pamplona hosts ASCRI conference
The Spanish private equity association ASCRI held its annual conference on 23 April in the Palacio de Congresos de Navarra in Pamplona. The conference was attended by several hundred delegates, and was opened by ASCRI's new president, Jorge Mataix of Nmás1, who recently took over from Felipe Oriol. The opening speech was followed by a detailed examination of the management buyout process, led by Ricardo Moreno of the Instituto de Empresa. The topic was then extended in the form of a panel discussion on the management buyout versus growth capital, chaired by Carlos Colomer, chairman and CEO of The Colomer Group, Antonio Catalán, president of AC Hotels, and Felipe Oriol, president of Corpfin Capital. A practical case study focussed on local Navarra-based company Movinord, and involved Francisco Canales and Federico Crespo, the company's former and present heads respectively, and was moderated by José MarÃa Aracama, director general of the regional venture firm Sodena. Javier Loizaga of Mercapital moderated a round-table discussion on private equity firms in Spain, with the participation of Raúl Vázquez of Alpha Corporate, Juan Carlos Gabilondo of Bank of Scotland and Pedro Rueda of the law firm Araoz y Rueda. The conference was closed with an address by Miguel Sanz Sesma, president of the Government of Navarre.www.ascri.org
