SPRI to back Basque business initiatives
The Basque venture firm SPRI (Sociedad para la Promoción y Reconversión Industrial del PaÃs Vasco) is set to back 20 regional business initiatives this year via its Ekintzaile programme. SPRI will be considering industrial, innovative projects as part of the programme, and will examine the viability of the idea and the maturity of the business, before according financial support to the successful projects. In addition, SPRI, together with the Basque government, has developed the Bizkaia Enpresa Digitala project, under which they recently inaugurated three centres in the business parks at Miramón, Miñano and Zamudio to help small- to medium-sized businesses to adapt to new technology. The total investment in the project will be E7m up to 2005, and will be provided in equal parts by SPRI and the government. The new centres are equipped with training rooms, auditoria, libraries and videoconferencing facilities using WI-FI technology.
