Food sector whets PE appetite
Research conducted by 3i has found that European private equity investors are showing increasing interest in the food sector. The results of the study indicate that investment in the sector rose from e2.7bn in 2001 to e4.5bn in 2002. The sector is seen as presenting attractive opportunities for investment due to constant innovation in product development and consolidation in the market. The food sector presents particular opportunities for SMEs to expand into foreign markets, in addition to the spin-off opportunities stemming from multi-national food corporates.
