While Southern Europe, particularly Spain, has seen a surge in private equity activity in recent weeks, the region continues to face substantial challenges.
A number of refinancings and restructurings have been rumoured, and Spain's ONO has recently had to restructure its debt, receiving a €200m from its backers. As problems with Greece continue, the Spanish economy is also coming under fire, and the Italian Government is set to unveil plans to control its public sector debt.
