Fondo Italiano d’Investimento appoints Mammola as CEO
State-backed fund-of-funds Fondo Italiano d’Investimento (FII) has appointed Carlo Mammola as CEO with a three-year mandate.
As part of the agreement, FII's annual general meeting confirmed Innocenzo Cipolletta as chairperson and appointed several partners, including Ferruccio Carminati, Roberto Cassanelli, Guido Corbetta, Stefano Firpo, Anna Gervasoni, Giovanni Gilli, Rinaldo Ocleppo, Giovanni Sabatini, Pierpaolo Cellerino and Marco Zizzo.
Mammola took the place of his predecessor Gabriele Cappellini, who has led FII for the last three years. The large majority of local press reports were expecting a representative from Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, FII's main shareholder, to take the position. Instead, Mammola comes from an international private equity background.
Prior to the role, Carlo Mammola was founder and managing partner at pan-European buyout firm Argan Capital, which span out from Bank of America Capital Partners Europe in 1995. Mammola is also the founder and CEO of Italy1 Investment, the first Italian special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC), which is listed on the Italian stock exchange and had raised €150m of committed capital at the time of publication.
Mammola previously worked at private equity firm PAI Partners as managing director and partner, and as managing director at Sopaf, an Italian listed merchant bank.
To date, FII manages five real estate funds, one private equity fund, two venture capital funds-of-funds, one private equity fund-of-funds and one private debt fund-of-funds.
