Rui Alpalhao buys Banif Capital
Private investor Rui Alpalhao has bought Portuguese venture capital firm Banif Capital for an undisclosed amount, according to press reports.
Alpalha's successful offer for Banif Capital was among eight bids for the private equity arm of former Banif Banco in an auction launched a year ago, according to the Portuguese business daily Jornal Economico.
In 2003, the Portuguese bank launched Banif Capital, a venture capital firm aiming to contribute to the development of Portuguese small and medium-sized companies. Banif Capital manages three funds: Banif Portugal Crescimento, Infrastructure Fund and Global Private Equity Fund.
In 2015, most of Banif Banco's assets and liabilities were sold by the bank of Portugal to Santander Totta for €150m.
