Mercapital names new chairman, bids for Bentley
Spanish private equity player Mercapital has named Javier Loizaga Jimenez as its new chairman. He replaces his father Jose Maria Lozaiga. Loizaga Jimenez has more than 20 years' experience in the sector and has occupied positions at EVCA (2006-07) and ASCRI (1995) among others.
Mercapital is also believed to be the only private equity operator still bidding for the Spanish branch of the US' Bentley Pharmaceuticals. The auction process began some six months ago. It is led by Deutsche Bank and would also include three pharmaceutical industrial players: French group Sanofi-Aventis, Israeli multinational Teva and Icelandic group Invest Farma, the latter is already the owner of Catalonian labs Lesvi.
