Lexington wins Generali private equity stakes
Italy's largest insurer Assicurazioni Generali has agreed to sell its holdings in European leveraged buyout funds to Lexington Partners, according to reports.
The stakes are valued at almost €500m. Lexington acquired another group of fund stakes valued at around $400m from Generali in 2012.
In 2010, the investor closed a $7bn secondaries fund, the largest raised to date on a global scale. The vehicle was 80% larger than its predecessor, raised in 2007.
Sales on the secondary market have risen in the wake of new European regulation, which have seen the cost of retaining such stakes increase for banks and insurers.
