Apax appoints Oriol Pinya as chairman
Apax Partners has named Oriol Pinya as chairman of the private equity firm’s Spanish unit.
Pinya, who will replace Nicolas Bonilla in the role, is already CEO of Spanish operations at the investor's Barcelona offices. Having started at the firm in 1999, he also co-leads Apax's global retail and consumer team.
His investments to date include Apax's largest Spanish acquisition, of bakery business Panrico, in which the buyout firm saw its share reduced to near zero in a debt-for-equity swap.
Pinya also led the investment into Electro Stocks as part of a deal valued at €350m. This company was also the subject of a debt-for-equity swap, this time on the part of Apax's co-investor ING last January. Apax nevertheless invested a further €20m into the business.
Prior to Apax, Pinya worked at BCG and Merrill Lynch. His studies included a BBA from ESADE, a Master CEMS from HEC and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
