Sator and Palladio appeal rejected by courts
Italian private equity houses Palladio and Sator have had their appeal against the proposed merger of Unipol and Fondiaria-SAI rejected by the national courts.
The duo had tabled several offers for Fondiaria, but was rejected earlier this month when the ailing insurer agreed to go ahead with the Unipol merger.
Sator and Palladio initially made a bid for the company in February, which ran aground due to debt restructuring issues and penalty clauses in an earlier bid from Unipol.
The pair tabled a second offer of up to €400m in May this year, followed by a third in late June.
The proposed merger with Unipol will create Italy's second largest insurer, sizeable enough to rival national giant Generali.
