Charterhouse's Optima acquires Blend Coberturas
Charterhouse Capital Partners-backed Optima has acquired Brazilian confectionery ingredients producer Blend Coberturas.
The purchase was made via Optima's Brazilian subsidiary Mec3 do Brasil. It follows the acquisitions of patisserie decoration specialist Modecor in 2017; ice-cream and patisserie ingredients maker Giuso Guido in May 2018; and the ice-cream division of Italian chocolate producer Pernigotti in October 2019.
Following this new add-on, Optima expects to reach a turnover of around €190m in 2019 and further expand internationally.
Established in 1984 and headquartered in Rimini, Optima manufactures ingredients for artisanal ice-cream via its brand Mec3. The business mainly produces pastes, bases, syrups and powders for the ice-cream segment.
Optima was acquired by Charterhouse from The Riverside Company and other minority shareholders in 2016. The GP deployed capital from its Fund X, a €2.3bn vehicle that held a final close in November 2016. The deal valued the company at around €350-400m.
Company
Founded in 1996 and headquartered in São Paulo, Brazil, Blend Coberturas specialises in the production of ingredients for confectionery products, ice-cream and chocolate.
