Suma invests in Gestcompost
Spanish private equity firm Suma Capital has acquired a stake of 40% in Gestcompost, which specialises in the treatment of organic and biodegradable waste.
The GP invested via Suma Capital Efficiency & Environment Fund, which closed on €150m in 2018 and is dedicated to investments in sustainable infrastructure and energy companies, with the aim of tackling climate change. This is the eighth investment made by the vehicle, which is now around 66% deployed.
Suma intends to support Gestcompost's growth both organically and via new acquisitions. The company plans to open new production facilities in Spain and might purchase one or two plants that would add 200,000 tonnes per year to its capacity.
Company
Founded in 2003 and based in Pina de Ebro, near Zaragoza, Gestcompost recycles organic waste materials into compost.
The company specialises in the management and treatment of organic and biodegradable non-hazardous waste, including agricultural, farming, industrial and urban waste.
Gestcompost has the capacity to recycle 400,000 tonnes of waste per year and generates annual revenues of around €10m.
