
Principia's Applix bolts on Melazeta
Principia portfolio company Applix Group has acquired digital entertainment company Melazeta to expand in the digital education sector.
Applix bought Melazeta for €288,000, according to Italian publication Il sole 24 Ore, and secured 62.55% of the company's shares as part of the deal.
The acquisition follows the bolt-on of Xorovo in 2012, which became Applix's software development centre, and bSmart in 2014, which is now the business unit that focuses on digital education. According to Il Sole 24 Ore, Applix spent a total of €1.75m on M&A in the past five years. The company was not available for confirmation at the time of publication.
In November 2011, Applix raised a €3m funding round from the Principia II fund, AmgelLab, Hyppo Corporation and family offices.

Melazeta is a digital company, founded in 1998 and headquartered in Modena and Milan. The company specialises in digital education, focusing on educational games and educational entertainment strategies.
In 2015 Applix generated €4.3m in revenues, marking a growth of 28% compared to 2014.
