Amadeus Capital Partners backs Bellco
Amadeus Capital Partners has entered the shareholding of Italian dialysis technology company Bellco, owned by Montezemolo & Partners.
Amadeus acquired a 20% stake in Bellco. The investment follows Amadeus's experience with medical technology companies, having counted Solexa and Optos among its portfolio companies.
Previous funding
In March 2012, Montezemolo acquired Bellco from Argos Soditic and MPVenture for €100m. The deal was completed through the Charme II vehicle and saw the management team reinvest to retain a 10% stake. Argos Soditic and MPVenture bought the firm in 2008.
Company
Founded in 1972 and based in Mirandola, Bellco specialises in products for extra-corporeal blood filtration. Last year, the firm introduced new dialysers for chronic and acute renal failure and launched a new range of patented dialysers to treat sepsis and acute lung injury in intensive care units. Bellco has also developed and launched the first dialysis system for new-born babies.
With a second plant in Toulouse, the firm employs 370 members of staff and has subsidiary operations in Spain, Belgium, Sweden and Canada. Bellco generated revenues in excess of €100m in 2012 and EBITDA of almost €15m.
