Madrid-based Agnitio was founded in 2004 by researchers from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). The company was initially founded as a spin-off of UPM. The company creates products for identity management and identity verification, using voice biometrics currently used by law enforcement agencies. The financial sponsors will work closely with the current management team to consolidate the position of the company in the voice biometrics segment. The plan is to expand into the commercial private sector targeting mainly financial institutions and Big Business. Similarly, the backers plan is to position the company in the US market as part of its internationalisation strategy. In 2007 the turnover was reported at approximately €1m and employs around 23 staff.
