3i to buy Barclays’ infrastructure fund management business
3i has made a binding offer to buy Barclays’ European infrastructure fund management business.
The acquisition is in line with 3i's current European infrastructure project, which invests through 3i Infrastructure. 3i intends to leverage the Barclays Infrastructure Funds Management Ltd (BIFM) platform to increase dealflow towards 3i Infrastructure and to raise new funds.
BIFM has assets under management of around £780m and an investment team based in London and Paris.
BIFM has invested a total of £1.7bn across six funds and currently manages two active unlisted funds that back UK and European public-private partnership and energy projects.
The move follows 3i's aim to increase income from third-party assets under management.
