DFJ Esprit sells The Cloud to BSkyB
Satellite broadcaster BSkyB has agreed to acquire wireless broadband business The Cloud from DFJ Esprit for an undisclosed amount.
The Cloud was part of DFJ Esprit's £130m acquisition of a significant part of 3i's European venture portfolio, announced in September 2009.
The move would enable BSkyB's internet service provider arm Sky to deliver broadband to its clients away from home.
The Cloud is a London-based provider of wireless LAN technology to ISPs (Internet service providers), mobile operators and cable companies. Founded in 2003, the company has a network of 22,000 publicly accessible Wi-Fi hotspots around Europe, including locations in cafes, bars and restaurants.
