
Investec exits Big Bear Group
Investec has successfully sold Big Bear Group to Finnish food producer Raisio. The total value of the transaction is thought to be around €95.3m.
Investec exited the food company with an IRR of over 37%.
Founded in 2003, Big Bear Group is a producer of breakfast cereals and snack bars. The company employs about 250 people and has production sites in Leicester and Southall, London. Almost 70% of the company's sales are generated from breakfast and snack products, and 30% by confectionery. In 2010 Big Bear had a turnover of €65.1m, EBITDA of €13.6m and EBIT of €12.1m. The group owns brands including Sugar Puffs, Fox's Glacier, XXX Mints, Just Brazils and Harvest Cheweee.
Investec acquired Big Bear Group in 2003 and backed the add-on acquisition of Sugar Puffs in 2006. The asset management group has increased the company's EBIT from £1m to £12m via acquisitions and organic growth.
