VCT fundraising picks up
New figures released today by the Association of Investment Companies (AIC) show a spike in fundraising activity for VCTs in the 2009/10 tax year.
According to the AIC, a total of £340m was raised for VCTs, compared with £158m the previous year.
Although the fundraising activity did not quite match the levels seen at the peak of the market in 2004-2006, it is the fourth highest total seen since VCTs were launched 15 years ago. And, with the new higher rate of income tax, coupled with a reduction in pension tax relief for higher earners, it looks likely that interest in this type of vehicle will remain strong.
