Secondaries to shape industry
It's all about secondaries. Just days after HarbourVest announced a $2.9bn fund close, it was announced that Andrew Hartley, former founder of August Equity, had joined direct secondaries player Chamonix as partner. "The primary market right now has all sorts of problems," Hartley says. "The real value now is in providing fresh liquidity and helping to restructure the industry."
HarbourVest is one of four secondaries funds to close this year; another three are on the cards (see page 7).
