Private equity firms circle NHS staffing arm
Soon-to-be privatised NHS Professionals is set to attract private equity attention, according to media reports.
The NHS staffing arm is among several state-owned companies being put on the block by the coaliton government, in an effort to downsize the country's public sector. The sale could be initiated as early as next year.
NHS Professionals was set up by the previous Labour government in 2004, to prevent the NHS being overcharged by private staffing agencies. The company supplies work opportunities for nursing, medical and administration and clerical staff in the NHS.
NHS Professionals recently posted its first profits since inception, having previously been a lossmaking operation with cumulative losses of around £100m.
