Amadeus leads $2.7m round for FiveAI
Venture capital firm Amadeus Capital Partners has led a $2.7m round of funding for FiveAI, a UK developer of 3D mapping software for use in autonomous vehicles.
Spring Partners and Notion Capital also took part in the round, which will enable FiveAI to invest in recruitment, road testing and product development.
The deal for FiveAI marks Amadeus's sixth investment of 2016, and third in a UK company. In February, the firm joined Seedcamp, ClearlySo and Cambridge Angels in a £500,000 round for Repositive, while in May it led a series-A round for Inotec AMD.
Autonomous vehicle projects are receiving significant funding from the automotive and technology sectors, with Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan and Google among a host of companies undertaking extensive development in the area. On the VC front, Italian GPs Atlante Ventures and Toscana Venture recently sold Yogitech to Intel, with the acquirer announcing its intention to invest heavily in the segment.
Meanwhile, in its 2015 budget, the UK government also announced a £100m investment into the automotive industry to boost driverless technology and low-emission vehicles.
Company
