NorthEdge invests in Bridge Farm Nurseries MBO
NorthEdge Capital has backed Bridge Farm Nurseries, a UK producer of ornamental plants, flowers and herbs.
Financial details were not disclosed. Bridge Farm generated a gross profit of £3.8m from sales of £12m in 2016, according to publicly available documents. This is up from a gross profit of £2.3m on sales of £8.3m in 2015.
The investment from NorthEdge will allow the management team to continue its capital expenditure programme, investing in glasshouse infrastructure and biomass heating.
NorthEdge deployed capital from its second fund to invest in Bridge Farm, the GP confirmed. NorthEdge Capital Fund II held a final close in March 2016 on £300m. It targets businesses in the north of England, across a range of industries, and focuses on the lower-mid-market, specifically businesses with enterprise values of between £10-100m, with a £20-75m sweet spot. Typical tickets will range from £5-35m.
NorthEdge director Rob Freer will sit on the board in a non-executive capacity.
The GP recently opened a new Birmingham office to conduct Midlands investments – the Bridge Farm deal is the first to be made from the new office.
