
Matrix and Morpheus in $25m round for Starship Technologies
Matrix Partners and Morpheus Ventures have taken part in a $25m early-stage funding round for Starship Technologies, a UK- and US-based provider of autonomous robots for the delivery of local goods.
As part of the deal, Starship has appointed Lex Bayer – formerly Airbnb's group head of business development, payments and B2B operations – as its CEO.
The investment round also saw participation from Airbnb co-founder Nathan Blecharczyk, Skype founding engineer Jaan Tallinn, and the former chair and CEO of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Gary Barber.
The fresh capital will enable the company to launch its services in the UK and US, with an initial focus on urban neighbourhoods, university campuses and corporate facilities.
Previous funding
Daimler led a €16.5m seed round of funding for Starship in January 2017, with Shasta Ventures, Matrix, ZX Ventures, Morpheus, Grishin Robotics, Playfair Capital and a number of other investors.
