Earlybird leads $4.4m series-A for online legal marketplace Lexoo
Earlybird has led a $4.4m series-A for Lexoo, an online marketplace for legal services.
Lexoo will use the funding to invest in new technology, including automated contract drafting and project management tools. It expects to increase its headcount to 45 internationally by 2020. The firm argued that the traditional global law firm is a flawed delivery mechanism that incentivises overcharging and short-termism.
The investment is Earlybird's eighth this year. In July it closed a €175m fund focused on early-stage tech startups across Europe.
Company
Launched in 2014 and based in London, Lexoo operates as a marketplace where organisations can employ the services of independent legal professionals. It has 800 lawyers on its marketplace, all of which it says it has vetted. The lawyers are typically former global firm lawyers who work independently or for boutique firms.
