Lightspeed, 468, BroadLight co-lead USD 200m Series B for Zapp
UK-based grocery delivery startup Zapp has raised USD 200m in a Series B co-led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, 468 Capital and BroadLight Capital.
The round also saw participation from existing investors Atomico, Burda and Vorwerk Ventures.
Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton has also taken an undisclosed stake.
Zapp's co-founder and COO, Joe Falter, told TechCrunch that the investment would help increase Zapp's presence in its home market and help it expand into other big cities. Its coverage so far includes London, Manchester, Cambridge, Bristol, Amsterdam and Rotterdam, with a small pilot in Paris.
Falter also said that two thirds of the group's orders were profitable, with customers spending in the mid-GBP 20s per shop.
Its competitors include Getir, Gopuff, Jiffy and Deliveroo. In January, Getir raised more than USD 1bn at a USD 12bn valuation, which it was going to use to expand into North America.
Zapp has not revealed its valuation under the new round.
The delivery company employs all of its riders as full employees and its fleet of delivery vehicles is 100% electric, said Lightspeed Capital in a blog explaining its investment.
