Rock Spring Ventures holds first close at £26.3m
Rock Spring Ventures has held a first close for its Scottish venture fund, Rock Spring Ventures EU LP (RSV‐EU), on £26.3m.
The fund was launched in January 2013 and is expected to reach a final close on £50m. It will focus on early-stage life sciences and health technology companies. It was set up to bridge a perceived gap in sector-specific funding in Scotland and the UK.
RSV-EU has plans to form syndicates with international early-stage investors to achieve larger scale investments in the sector. It will also set up business development initiatives for its portfolio companies with its US-based sister fund, RSV-US, and with its operations in north-east Asia.
Investors
Initial investors include the European Investment Fund (EIF); Scottish Enterprise, which invested through the Scottish Investment Bank; Strathclyde Pension Fund; Rock Spring Ventures LPR (SV‐US); and the universities of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
Investments
RSV-EU will back early-stage life science technology companies in the UK, including spinouts from universities.
People
Managing partners Sinclair Dunlop and Kyp Sirinakis will manage the fund.
