GERMANY – Wellington Partners leads EUR 18m round for Heliatek
Wellington Partners has led a second round of financing for organic solar cells developer Heliatek GmbH.
Heliatek develops organic solar cells incorporating its proprietary tandem technology from so-called "small molecules", which are organic dyes that are chemically synthesized from hydrocarbons.
It spun out of the Universities of Dresden and Ulm in 2006. The following year, it received its first round of institutional funding from Wellington, BASF and Bosch. Based in Ulm and Dresden, the company employs 30.
The new capital will fund the construction of an initial production facility in Dresden.
