SPAIN – Mercapital still involved in pharmaceuticals auction

Mercapital is believed to be the only private equity operator still bidding for the Spanish branch of US Bentley Pharmaceuticals. The auction process began some six months ago.

It is led by Deutsche Bank and would also include three pharmaceutical industrial players: French group Sanofi-Aventis, Israeli multinational Teva and Icelandic group Invest Farma, this last already owner of Catalonian labs Lesvi.

Mercapital managing assets worth EUR 1.bn has previous experience in the Spanish healthcare sector with investments in hospital groups such as Hospiten, Quirón and more recently USP Europe sold to Cinven in 2007.
