Ropes & Gray appoints Travers Smith's Sanderson
Law firm Ropes & Gray has appointed Phil Sanderson, former head of private equity at Travers Smith, as partner in its London office.
Sanderson specialises in mid-market UK and international buyouts and strategic M&A transactions. At Ropes & Gray, he will be responsible for developing the firm's European private equity practice.
Since joining Travers Smith, Sanderson has worked on Exponent Private Equity's acquisitions of BBC Magazines, Origin Publishing and Magicalia Media, which formed Immediate Media. He also worked on Phoenix Equity Partners' £100m sale of Gaucho to ICG.
He was promoted to partner in the Travers Smith private equity group in 2001 before taking over from the firm's co-founder Charles Barter as head of private equity in July 2008.
Sanderson studied law at the University of Durham. His appointment brings the headcount in Ropes & Gray's private equity team to 20.
