UK - 3i and Doughty Hanson back former Egg executives in new startup

Founding CEO of Egg plc and First Direct, Mike Harris, and former Egg CIO Tom Ilube, have announced the creation of a new consumer company pioneering a range of services to help give people real power over their personal information in the digital world. Backed by an investment from 3i and Doughty Hanson Technology Ventures, the new company, garlik, will champion consumersт€™ right to control their personal data and enable them to find, manage, correct, remove or even promote details about themselves online.

garlik is applying ground-breaking semantic web technologies to develop its products. Hailed as the core of the ‘next generation’ Web, semantic technology adds context and meaning to data providing simpler, more intuitive and richer Web experience. garlik will be one of the first mass consumer applications of this technology. At the end of May, the company will launch a pilot programme prior to a full consumer launch in the autumn 2006.
