SPAIN - Private equity investment drops 41%

Difficulty in securing financing from banks has meant that only two transactions above the EUR 100m have been closed in 2008 to date. There were 20 mid-market transactions, defined as those above EUR 10m, against 31 last year, with these representing 66% of the capital invested. Exits also recorded a decline, with the total value of divestments recording a 54% drop from EUR 716m to EUR 328m.

In terms of sector, energy and natural resources came top of the list, representing 23.95% of deals carried out, followed by industrial services and products (18.2%), telecoms (13.9%), construction (10.4%), IT (9.2%) and consumer goods (8.5%).
