NETHERLANDS - Rabobank invests $5.4m into eFresh
Rabobank has made a $5.4m investment into Netherlands-based fresh industry portal eFresh.
The business model is to charge EUR 899 a year to become a member of eFresh, for which users get an escrow service without any commission. The model allows grocery stores or big restaurant chains buy and sell fruit, coffee, and other fresh good without paying a middleman buyer. Customers bid on the goods in one of several languages just like they would on eBay. The company had planned an IPO but decided to postpone it given current market conditions.
