European pension funds to increase PE exposure
More than half of Europe’s pension funds expect to increase their exposure to private equity over the next three years, a report has found.
The research, commissioned by financial services provider State Street, found more than 60% of European respondents expected to increase their investment in the asset class over the coming three years.
The findings are part of a study undertaken by the Economist Intelligence Unit, which found 77% of global pension funds are likely to increase their appetite for investment risk in light of ongoing low interest rate environments.
The research canvassed the intentions of 134 pension schemes from across the globe, 36% of which were Europe-based.
The conclusions are in line with the views of Ambrogio Rinaldi from the Italian Pension Funds Supervision Commission, who recently told unquote” the asset class was "very consistent with the objectives of pension funds, which should really have a long-term view".
