HSBC sells remaining Montagu stake
HSBC has sold its remaining 19.9% stake in Montagu Private Equity to the management team, which spun the business out in 2003.
The management team at Montagu (then HSBC Private Equity) bought an 80.1% stake in the firm from HSBC in 2003. It acquired consolidated gross assets totaling around £5.7m in this latest transaction.
Montagu Private Equity was established in 1968 as a division of Midland Bank. It specialises in buyout transactions, targeting business valued in the €100m-1bn range in the UK, France, Germany, the Nordic region and Poland.
Montagu closed its fourth buyout fund on €2.5bn in April last year. The firm currently has assets under management in excess of €4.7bn.
