EUROPE - Private equity investment drops to four year low
Figures published today in the unquote" Private Equity Barometer, produced in association with Candover, reveal that the total value of private equity-backed investments fell to less than EUR 20m between July and September - a 35% drop on the previous quarter and the lowest total seen since Q1 2004
Unsurprisingly, buyouts were worst affected, with the volume total dropping by 14% - from 178 transactions to 153 - while value fell by 32% from EUR 24.4bn to EUR 17bn, which was, again, the lowest figure since Q1 2004.
The UK remained the most active region in Europe in terms of buyout activity, with 37 deals completed worth EUR 4.5bn, though this did represent falls of 42% and 44% respectively compared to Q2 - the largest and second largest drops respectively.
