US - Obama appoints VC to head Small Business Administration
Newly inaugurated US President Barack Obama has appointed Karen Mills Gordon to head up his Small Business Administration, demonstrating his faith in private equity as a driver of economic growth.
The key take-away in the Mills announcement is the fact that Obama made it early in his transition, showing that the SBA's work will be a priority in the new administration.
A lesser known fact from Mill's biography is that her parents, Melvin and Ellen Gordon, are husband-and-wife team that controls and runs Chicago-based Tootsie Roll Industries, an American candy classic.
