HTGF, HIF in €800,000 round for Rodos Biotarget
High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) and Hannover Investimpuls Fonds (HIF) have invested in a funding round led by medical entrepreneur Otto Gies for biotechnology company Rodos Biotarget.
Otto Gies previously invested in the company via two crowdfunding platforms, Seedmatch and Aescuvest, and will now take a direct shareholding.
The company said it has used crowdfunding to gain the attention of business partners, collaborators and private equity investors. Medical entrepreneur Otto Gies is said to have been instrumental in this process.
Rodos Biotarget will use the funding to develop new medicines and therapies using its trademarked Targosphere nanotechnology platform.
The company is currently in the market for a larger series-B round, which it aims to close by the end of the year, according to a source close to the situation.
Previous funding
In 2008, HTGF and HIF invested in a seed round to validate the company's technology platform. Both VC firms then backed a further €2.6m funding round alongside KfW's ERP Start Fund in 2012, along with family offices and business angels.
In 2016, the company raised further funds using the crowdfunding platform Seedmatch.

The business was founded in 2008 and has developed a nanotechnology platform called TargoSphere for the targeted delivery of therapeutically active agents to antigen-presenting cells.
