
VC firms in $30m series-B for logistics specialist Freighthub
Venture capital investor Rider Global has led a $30m series-B funding round for Berlin-based digital logistics company Freighthub.
Maersk Growth (the corporate venture arm of container shipping company AP Moller-Maerskm), Northzone Ventures, Unbound, Global Founders Capital (a Rocket Internet investment vehicle) and Cherry Ventures also took part in the funding round.
This new round brings the total capital raised by the company to $53m. Freighthub intends to use the fresh capital to further develop its digital service offering and expand its footprint in the Asian market.
Previous funding
Global Founders Capital and Cherry Ventures led a $3m early-stage funding round for Freighthub in September 2016. VC investors Saarbruecker 21, Cavalry Ventures and La Famiglia also took part in the financing.
Subsequently, Northzone Ventures led a $20m series-A funding round in December 2017. The VC house drew capital for the investment from Northzone VIII, a €300m vehicle that held a final close in September 2016. Global Founders Capital, Cherry Ventures, Cavalry Ventures and La Famiglia also took part in the round.
Company
Established in 2016, Freighthub is a digital freight specialist that offers transport services for sea, air and rail freight, built on digitalised processes. The business provides booking, tracking, communication, data exchange, document management and supply chain optimisation for global container and pallet transport.
Based in Berlin, the company also has offices in Hamburg, Cologne and Hong Kong. It employs 150 staff, has a partner network of more than 1,000 shippers and serves around 1,500 customers.
