Earlybird leads €10m series-A for Motain
Earlybird Venture Capital has led a €10m series-A funding round for Berlin-based app developer Motain, the company behind The Football App.
Motain's series-A funding from Earlybird will be used primarily to increase its flagship football app's global presence ahead of the 2014 world cup in Brazil.
The product will be further developed beyond the six languages it currently supports. This was the company's first funding from institutional investors. Earlybird was introduced to the company through its own network.
Company
Motain is an app developer based in Berlin. The company's flagship product is The Football App (known as iLiga in Germany), a four-year-old service for football fans, providing news, videos and statistics on global matches.
The app has achieved 6.5 million downloads so far and counts 3.5 million monthly active users, currently growing at a rate of around 100,000 new downloads per day. The app is available for free with ads or for a season's subscription without advertising.
